Wife Cheryl gives them all love and encouragement.Last week, the improbable but incredible opportunity grabbed Roy by the collar of his golf shirt. He played his posterior off in the q-school finals at the TPC Scottsdale, shot 12-under for 72 holes despite a bogey on the 72nd hole. He would be in a three-man playoff for the fifth and final tour card. You see, the Champions Tour is a closed shop. They only want name stars out there, for anyone else, the odds are huge. Every year a thousand guys aspire to that tour, a scant five spots are up for grabs. So there was Jim Roy in the playoff.
He hit a tee-shot rescue club then a 9-iron from 146 yards and it was a beauty, leaving him a six-foot putt for birdie on the first hole at TPC. The perfect putt won him a fully-exempt spot for 2010."I'm still numb," he told us this week as he prepares for Thanksgiving at home. He was bombarded with voice mails and text messages from the gang at his home club, Bellevue, in Syracuse. He also heard from some guys you'd recognize: Brad Faxon, Jeff Sluman, and Joey Sindelar, all excited for him. He's the kind of guy you'd be excited for. He'll downplay the fact that he beat prostate cancer two years ago. His short, stocky stature and gruff voice make him golf's equivalent of Yoda, the Star Wars Jedi-Master.Along with that work, Roy said the secret to his success in one word patience ."I had incredible patience My expectations were realistic. I drove the ball in play, hit 44 of 51 fairways."Impressive.More impressive were the 17 greens he hit in that final round.PatienceJim Roy has waited a LONG time for this opportunity."I just plodded along.

I got a shot and well, like I said, I'm still numb."You can add thankful to that as well."Totally," Roy said.. Mark Sanchez threw four interceptions and fumbled once in the loss to the Patriots. Many Jets fans and the media are gunning for Mark's head and they are probably justified as Mark may be the cause of why the Jets are losing the games. When the Jets traded up in the draft to number five, they clearly made the decision that the franchise is going in a new direction and will be rebuilding for years to come. The keyword is YEARS.
Let's flashback to 1998, where a young Peyton Manning was beginning his career.Peyton was putting up VERY similar numbers and we now know what kind of player he has become.I am not saying Mark Sanchez is the next Peyton Manning, but I am saying that we owe it to Mark, Rex and the entire Jets organization to give him a chance.Benching him at this point in the season when there is NO CHANCE for the playoffs would be detrimental to his growth.Having Mark hold a clip board would not help him, and I'm happy to hear that Rex, in his presser last night, is sticking with the rookie. "I don't think he's going to get any better sitting on the sidelines," Ryan said, via the New York Daily News. "Unless you get on the field, you are not going to get any better." I was watching Twitter live during the game, and although I'm not surprised by the reaction, many fans wanted him benched in the game. All the "Monday Morning QB's" this morning still want him benched for the season. That there’s no fear of getting benched if he doesn’t say “uncle” is also a concern. I get the sense he knows what’s right, but with no fear of getting yanked, he’s continuing to do what he wants. Mark plays with confidence. He really believes he can make every play.On one of the turnovers in the Pats game, he should have clearly thrown the ball out of bounds, but he was really trying to make the play.I believe that he will be coached up and this is part of the learning process. It was really bothering me because I knew I read somewhere that Mark was putting up Peyton Manning Rookie numbers, so I decided to do a little research.I put together the following chart and if you compare Mark with Peyton Manning through the first ten games of their career, Mark is actually playing BETTER at this point.Mark has two more wins, a better QB Rating, and four less interceptions.Peyton is the current record holder for most interceptions by a Rookie.Let's hope Mark doesn't go anywhere near that record. Jets fans really need to take a deep breath and realize that this season is lost.I'm not saying be happy with the outcome, but let's be realalistic.Did we really believe we were going to beat the Patriots in week 11Did we really think we were going to the playoffs this year at the beginning of the year I hope for the playoffs EVERY year and do expect it, however; my gut was saying 6-10.If we were 8-8, that was really dreaming!Remember, we were 4-12 last year, we have a rookie QB and Coach. The 3-0 start set false expectations. If we have the same record but start 1-2 or 0-3, I think we are not as hard on Mark. We, the fans, got a taste of winning, and we wanted it so bad but why is it when things go bad we turn on the guys we were JUST PRAISING weeks before. Crisis in Credit"One indicator that points to reduced risk of default among financial institutions is the average credit default swap spread for the eight largest U.S. banks, which has declined," Interim Assistant Secretary for Financial Stability Neel Kashkari told the Brookings Institution. The Treasury Department had initially planned to use the fund to take distressed assets off bank books, but it has primarily used the program to take equity stakes in banks in an effort to increase their capital and spur further lending."The most important evidence that our strategy is working is that we have stemmed a series of financial institution failures," Kashkari said.Congress created the $700 billion program in October, but Treasury currently only has authority to tap half of the funds authorized. It has already made pledges that total more than the money it currently has access to.Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said on Wednesday a decision to tap the final $350 billion would be left to President-elect Barack Obama.Treasury would need to formally inform Congress that it plans to begin drawing on the final tranche, allowing lawmakers an opportunity to block the funds, before it gains access.(Reporting by Patrick Rucker; Editing by James Dalgleish) Crisis in Credit.
